Become an Athlete
Athletes are the heart of Special Olympics Alaska. Children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities from across Alaska find success, joy and friendship — realizing abilities, not disabilities.
- Ages 8 and up with intellectual or developmental disability
- 14 Olympic-style sports across 4 seasons
- Local, state, national and world competition paths
- Free registration — all athletes compete at no cost

Become a Volunteer
Change the world through sport! We need passionate individuals of all ages and skills to help support our athletes through coaching, event management, media, administration, or medical support.
- Coaches — train athletes in your chosen sport
- Unified Partners — compete alongside athletes
- Sport Commissioners — coordinate regional events

Who Can Compete?
Special Olympics Alaska serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, age 8 and older. Athletes of all ability levels are welcome — from beginners to advanced competitors.
- Must be at least 8 years of age
- Must have an intellectual or developmental disability, or a cognitive delay as a result of training in a development period
- No athletic experience required
- Registration is always free for athletes
